Caffeine Crawl - The Top 5 Coffee Spots in Sydney

Forget the Melbourne vs. Sydney coffee feud, we’re all about sharing the love for all things caffeine related.

Our friends down south might grab the glory, but Sydney's coffee scene is pretty on-point too. While we can’t play favourites (we love all our GoGet cities equally we promise!), we reckon some of the brews on this list rival anything Melbourne has to offer. So skip the smashed avo, grab your keep-cup, and join us as we unveil our favourite Sydney coffee spots.

Single O Surry Hills:

We couldn’t possibly make a list of the city’s best coffee spots without including the O.G.s at Single O. Launched in 2003 (just like GoGet), they’ve been keeping Sydneysiders caffeinated ever since. While their roasting now takes place at Botany Roast Works, their iconic Surry Hills cafe is a must-visit for coffee aficionados. Pour yourself a taste from one of their brew taps of goodness and thank us later.

Only Coffee Project:

Samuel Lee and Quinton Ng, founders of the (also excellent) Double Cross around the corner, have. Only Coffee, a small espresso bar in Crow’s Nest, totally lives up to its name. There’s no messing around with brunch menus here: these guys are all about their coffee.

Expect a rotating roster of high-quality roasters (try saying that 5 times fast), each showcasing their unique take on the perfect cup. It’s also the only place in Australia where you can get New York’s famous Sey Coffee. This isn't just a coffee shop, it's an experience and we highly recommend grabbing a seat at the bar and chatting the breeze - or the beans - with the baristas.

Black Market Coffee Marrickville:

Escape the ordinary and head to Black Market Coffee in Marrickville. This Marrickville gem isn't your average cafe. This roaster-turned-warehouse brews more than just coffee. Though they obviously do that extremely well too.  Try out their incredible Black Market Coffee Tasting. It's a sensory adventure unlike any other. And if you’d like to replicate the magic at home, they also offer excellent  online barista training and pro training if you’re looking to turn your love of coffee into a career.

Ashfield Apothecary:

Around the corner from Ashfield station in a tiny heritage shop, Ashfield Apothecary punches way above its diminutive size. No boring beans here – owner Mandeep Bhusal brings in fresh roasters from around the world. It’s an adventure in every cup. Their dedication to quality extends to its food menu, featuring unique dishes designed to complement the coffee experience. With its clean aesthetic and commitment to showcasing international coffee roasters, Ashfield Apothecary is a must visit for Sydneysiders.

Barrel One Coffee Roasters:

Tucked away in Brookvale's industrial area, Barrel One Coffee Roasters serves us god-tier coffee and fabulous food. The cafe, housed in their dispatch warehouse, boasts a menu inspired by New York deli-style cuisine. From bagels loaded with locally smoked pastrami to American-style grilled cheese sandwiches. With an industrial-chic setting and a commitment to quality, Barrel One is a hidden Sydney gem and well worth travelling to the Northern Beaches for.

GoGet Bonus:

Celsius

If you want gorgeous views to enjoy alongside your flat white, you can’t get any better than Celsius in Kirribilli. Sydney has no shortage of cafes with a view but we reckon this is the best of them. Luckily they aren’t resting on their laurels and relying on the views to keep their customers happy. They are dishing up fabulous coffee and food too. GoGet pro tip: If you’re heading there on a weekend go early. Celsius is tiny. And popular.

So there you have it, GoGet’s top 5+1 coffee spots in Sydney.

Whether you're quaffing a cortado in Crows Nest, or sipping an iced latte in Surry Hills, we’ve got you covered. And the good news is we haven’t even scratched the surface of Sydney’s coffee scene. Why not embark on your own caffeinated adventure today.
