December 2015: Getting ready
Christmas is just around the corner now, and we have some great ideas for surviving it unscathed. From hints and tips on our blog, gift ideas, long booking deals and even ways to make space for more presents, we have you covered! From all of us here, have a great Christmas, take care of yourselves and please drive safely. Check out our specials page for the low down on our long term deals, and for discounted pods log in to the booking system.
Staff Guides to Christmas
To help ease the pressure, we’ve put together some handy guides to surviving the holidays on the GoGet Blog:
- Choose your favourite Christmas movies between Kendel’s list and Paul’s “WAY better” one
- Set the mood with 6 hours of the best Christmas songs ever
- Stock up at the Fish Markets in the most painless way possible
- Make it a night to remember with our favourite NYE fireworks vantage points
- If you’re not drinking, take advantage of free hours between midnight and 6am to get home easily
Take off in January
Another tip we have is to start planning your January. While all eyes are fixed on Christmas and New Years, it’s a great time to snag a $49/day 7+ day long booking while there are still cars. Our discounted long term holiday cars have sold out for December, but we still have some available for January. See the side of the family you missed at Christmas, plan an extended Australia Day trip, or just organise some time for yourself to recharge after the festive season. Book an economy car from a CBD pod for 7 days or longer in January 2016, forward the booking confirmation to email@example.com, and get $49/day. For more details, visit our specials page.
New ways to pay
Paying your GoGet bill has never been easier, now we accept PayPal and BPAY. Link your GoGet account to your PayPal account, and get better control over your payments. You can pay with your PayPal balance, or you can set up multiple credit cards and even a bank account. If direct debit doesn’t jive with your budgeting, BPAY is an easy way to pay before the due date. Add our BPAY details to your internet banking, and you can transfer bits and pieces or the full amount when you have the cash. If you pay the full amount before the due date, you won’t get a direct debit! Keep an eye out for your biller code on your next invoice.
GoGet cars live in pods – dedicated parking spots provided by council or another provider. For the most part, this works fantastically! However, every now and then it’s not possible for a car to be returned to its pod.
What to do when the pod is occupied
Whether there’s a fancy sports car, a police wagon, a picnic table or a fallen tree in the pod when you go to return your car, the first thing to do is find somewhere to stop. Once you’re stationary, check your phone for your booking confirmation email. In most cases, it will tell you to park where your parking permit lets you park legally. Some councils and parking providers have different procedures, and that will be outlined for you. The most important thing to do is let us know where the car is now parked. Call 1300 769 389 and leave a voicemail, or text 0427 777 769 with the car name and new location. We’ll pass it on to the next member so they don’t get lost.
Art for Christmas
Stuck thinking about a unique, valuable, interesting gift for your loved one? Why not a piece of Australian art?
We’ve talked about Artbank before. They’re a bit like carshare for art, and they’ve kitted our office out with some unique pieces – we couldn’t be happier. Artbank lets you host the best of Australian art in your own home or office, and you only pay a leasing fee, which is much lower than the purchase price. You can visit the Artbank galleries in Waterloo (Sydney) or Armadale (Melbourne) to pick something out, but you can also arrange for them to make a sneaky visit and see what would work best in your space. The artwork will even be installed for you – what an easy gift! GoGet members get 10% off at Artbank, just show them your member card.
Brunswick Pop-up Pod
You may have heard the news about the Nightingale development in Brunswick. We were working with the architects to deliver a car-free residential building, but a controversial planning decision is forcing the developers to revisit their design to incorporate parking.
In the meantime, the building site stands vacant. However, never missing an opportunity, Breathe Architecture are lending us space on the empty site to host three new cars. This Pop-up Pod hosts a van, a Corolla and a Kia Carnival to serve the Brunswick community in their car-free living. The pod is on Florence St, Brunswick near Anstey Station – show your support and get a pose like @TrentKusters here!
Watch them shred
Our vans and roof-racked cars have long been popular with surfers, and this year we’re giving back by sponsoring the NSW Pro Series 2016.
The first event is right here in Sydney, the Carve Pro at Maroubra Beach. The event is a World Surf League Qualifying Series, which means the state’s best and talented surfers will be coming to town to shred for a place in the Pro Tournament. To help get them pumped and ready, the GoGet tent will provide space for competitors to hydrate and warm up. The Carve Pro will be held at Maroubra between the 15th and 17th of January. It’s the first of three events all the way up the NSW Coast, grab a GoGet and head up the coast for some sun and take in the home grown talent.

Emo the Musical
It’s a classic story of forbidden love. A moody, brooding emo and a happy go-lucky Christian find love in high school – but their friends do not approve. Originally made as a short film (which you can watch here), the story is being shot in Melbourne to be made into a big screen, full length masterpiece, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign and some Screen Australia funding. We’re excited to see an independent Australian film doing well, so we’ve agreed to help out with their transport needs. They’re currently filming, and occasionally need extras, so keep updated on their Facebook page to see if you can help out too.
Taxibox it away
Christmas Day means getting lots of exciting new presents – but it also poses the problem of where to put your old things! Need to shift an old tent (former camping hobby) to fit your new homebrew kit (new brewing hobby)? Is it time to swap out Harry Potter for Ken Follett on your full-to-bursting bookshelf? If you’re not ready to let go of anything yet, but really need to make some space, Taxibox mobile self-storage is an easy solution. Taxibox is an easy way to put all your old stuff out of sight, out of mind, without having to throw it away in case you need it again. They deliver a box, you fill it up, then they take it away. They can deliver the whole box back whenever you want, but more likely is that you’ll go and pay your box a visit – when you rekindle your love of camping! Taxibox have noticed a lot of their visitors are arriving in GoGet vans to do just that. They thought a GoGet van on-site would be handy, and we agree, so soon you will be able to walk, crawl, cycle or bus it to Taxibox, and retrieve your reignited interest with a GoGet parked at the Alexandria NSW Taxibox site.
Cool things our members are doing
GoGet members Trishay and Crystal run a cafe in Ashwood, Melbourne that makes amazing baked eggs… but there’s more to it than that! From the Art is a social enterprise that exclusively hires asylum seekers, giving them experience in hospitality and support and friendship networks. All the food is sourced from local farmers, and their coffee comes from STREAT, a great group that provides training and employment for at-risk youth. It’s a great place to go to before Christmas to stock up on last minute pressies, because they’ve got ethically sourced, fair trade handmade crafts made in remote communities around the world. They put a lot of effort into sourcing the products ethically, ensuring that the sales support communities in need, so you know your gift is making a difference to more than just the recipient. Pay them a visit on Facebook or IRL at 1/3 Yertchuk Ave, Ashwood. Merry Christmas, stay safe on the roads, and write to us if you’re doing something cool in 2016.
