Rivaled only by East, West and South Melbourne for creativity in the name department, North Melbourne is another of Melbourne’s neat inner-city suburbs worth checking out. North Melbourne is nice and close to the CBD and the 57 tram will take you right into the heart of the suburb. Perhaps the most stand out draw of North Melbourne is its proximity to the Queen Victoria Market, which is well worth a post of its own.

It’s a suburb full of great parks

The dog park on Macaulay Rd is a popular spot for canine socialising and dog-spotting. If you’ve got a pooch (or are excited by the prospect of dozens of exuberant dogs in an enclosed space), you can book one of our pet-friendly GoGet cars and take them to the park for some fetch and a run around.North Melbourne - Recreation Centre If you prefer exercise that involves significantly fewer saliva-coated tennis balls, the North Melbourne Recreation Centre is just down the road from the dog park. Located next door to the North Melbourne Football Club, the Recreation Centre has a pool, basketball/futsal/netball courts for hire and barbecues, among other facilities.

Restaurants and shops galore

On Errol St, you will find the bulk of North Melbourne’s restaurants and cafes. Auction Rooms is great for breakfast, lunch or coffee, and Mork Chocolate Brew House is just across the road if you fancy something more for dessert. But definitely do not rule out the other gems you might happen to find dotted around the suburb!North Melbourne - Mörk Chocolate If you are in the habit of collecting vinyl, Heartland Records on Victoria St is one of the best stocked record stores in Melbourne. And even if you don’t own a record player, the store is still a must-browse for music fans! North Melbourne’s Meat Market is a two-for-the-price-of-one deal of history and culture. The Meat Market is misleadingly not an actual meat market, but a creative space used for various performances, productions, and events. The building is itself an attraction regardless of what might be happening inside it, having been built in 1880 and listed as a grade one heritage building. Not only does North Melbourne have all of this on offer, but if you are a nearby or local GoGet member, it can also fulfill any of your automobile needs. Well stocked with economy vehicles, vans and an SUV, North Melbourne really does have it all!
