Where to Park in St Kilda
St Kilda is a beachside suburb of Melbourne that’s frequented by both tourists and locals. St Kilda also has a great night-life and is home to some of Melbourne’s most famous attractions, including Luna Park, The Esplanade Hotel, and Acland Street. Just 6km from Melbourne CBD, St Kilda also hosts several of Melbourne’s biggest events and festivals.
St Kilda’s a busy place, even without an event on. If you can, try to get to St Kilda by public transport. Trams run regularly to St Kilda from the city, or you can catch the tram from nearby Balaclava train station.
If you do need to drive to St Kilda, it’s not the easiest place to park in the world. However, there are spots to park in if you plan ahead. Read on for our guide on where to park in St Kilda.
Street Parking in St Kilda
Street parking in and around St Kilda is tricky, especially when you’re close to the beach precinct. The City of Port Phillip has set up permit zones in the back streets, which can only be parked in by local residents with the correct permit. So don’t assume you’ll be able to cruise the back streets for a park.
However, there are still plenty of streets with metered parking, with hourly rates ranging from $1.90 to $5.40. The City of Port Phillip has an excellent list of ticket machines with everything you might want to know about local street parking. Look up the streets you’re hoping to park on, or find a price you’re willing to pay, and mark it on a map before you cruise into town.
While we’re talking about street parking, if you’re looking for a day out at Luna Park you’ll find plenty of metered parking nearby. All-day metered parking typically costs around $10.80 and is situated on Shakespeare Grove.
Remember to read the street signs and leave yourself plenty of time to find a spot if you’re going to try to rely on a street parking option.
Fitzroy Street Precinct
A special mention to a particular street parking option. The City of Port Phillip Council offers street parking along the Fitzroy Street Precinct, one of the busiest strips in St Kilda. Council dropped the rates pretty substantially back in 2017, so the parking here is fairly cheap for casual street parking (below). Parking rates do vary with the seasons, as demand for parking is higher in Summer.
To access this discounted street-parking, you’ll want to look for parking in the following areas:
- Fitzroy Street between Acland Street and St Kilda Road
- Park Street and Loch Street between Mary Street and Fitzroy Street
- Park Lane and Canterbury Road between West Beach Road and Fitzroy Street
- West Beach Road between Park Street and Canterbury Road
- Pattison Street between St Kilda Road and Princes Street.
Parking rates are as follows:
- Summer (October to March): $3.80 per hour, $8.70 maximum
- Winter (April to September): $1.80 per hour, $8.70 maximum
Metropol – 60 Fitzroy Street
Located just behind Woolworths, Metropol carpark offers a fairly cheap hourly rate (about $2 an hour) a short distance to St Kilda Beach . There’s only 65 car spaces here, so have a backup parking plan if there aren’t any spots avaiable. The carpark operates from 6.30am to 3.00am on Friday and Saturday, and 6.30am to midnight on all other days.
Parking rates are below:
Casual parking (4hr maximum stay):

St Kilda Sea Baths
If you’re headed for a dip, you can park your car at St Kilda Sea Baths, located at 10-18 Jacka Boulevard. It’s one of the more expensive options for parking in St Kilda, but the location is amazing, right next to the beach.
You can access the Early Bird Parking rate of $8.00 if you arrive between 5.00am and 10.00am Monday to Friday. Early bird parkers must park their car on level B2 and validate their entry ticket at the self-validation kiosk after parking to receive the discounted rate.
The carpark is open 24 hours and casual parking rates are as follows:
- 0-1 hr: $6.00
- 1-2 hrs: $12.00

Albert Park Reserve
If you’re not just visiting for the beach, parking is available right throughout Albert Park Reserve. It’s a big area featuring Albert Park Lake, sporting facilities, playgrounds, restaurants, and walking and running tracks. The price of parking looks high at first blush, but maximum daily rates cap at a little over two hours. So, it ends up being a pretty good deal.
While it’s not a short walk, it’s also quite possible to walk from Albert Park Reserve to the St Kilda beachfront. Holdsworth Pavillion and St Kilda Park areas have the best access to the ocean.
Parking rates are as follows:
- Weekday hourly rate: $5.20 per hour
- Weekdays after 5pm flat rate: $5.20
- Weekday maximum all day rate: $12.50 per day
- Weekends flat rate fee: $5.20 per day
Acland Court Car Park
Acland Street is on the southern side of the St Kilda precinct, and off-street parking is available at Acland Court Car Park. The car park is open from 6.00am to midnight each day. You can get a discount on your parking if you shop at Coles (spend at least $15 to get the first hour free).
Casual parking is reasonably priced, and the centre is close to the beach, Luna Park, and the Palais theatre. You can also save money with the Early Bird Special. This is a $7 flat rate if you enter the carpark before 10.00am and exit after 3.00pm.
Otherwise, casual parking rates are as follows:
- 0-1 hr: $3.00
- 1-2 hrs: $8.00
- 2-2.5 hrs: $12.00
- 2.5-3 hrs: $15.00
- 3+ hrs: $18.00
