How Does GoGet Carshare Work in Canberra?
Joining GoGet takes about five minutes online, and once your Smartcard is in your hand you can book and go. Here is how it works from sign-up to first trip.
Join online. Head to goget.com.au/join-now. You will need a valid driver licence and a credit or debit card. Most members are verified within hours.
Get your Smartcard. Your Smartcard is what unlocks the car, so keep it in your wallet or on your keychain. Book in the app or online. Pick a car or van, choose your start and end times, and you are set. Book by the hour for errands, or by the day for bigger trips.
Tap and drive. When your booking starts, tap your Smartcard on the reader on the windscreen. The keys are already inside, on a retractable cord below the steering wheel.
Fill up on us. Each GoGet vehicle in Canberra has its own fuel card which lives in the car. If the tank drops below a quarter, pull into a servo, fill up, pay with the fuel card and you are done. Fuel is included in every booking, so there is no fuel bill.
Bring it home. Return the car to its home pod before your booking ends, with at least a quarter of a tank, lock it with your Smartcard and get on with your day.

Popcar has announced it is winding down its carshare operations across Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Byron, with an expected last day of trading of 30 September 2026.
