The Top 4 Places To Visit In NSW With GoGet!

New South Wales may not be the biggest state in Australia yet there are plenty of spots to explore that take you a little way off the beaten track. Of course, venturing beyond the typical tourist traps isn’t always the easiest trip to make, so we’ve picked our top four places to visit in NSW and broken down how multi-modal transport options can get you where you want to go.

Hint: GoGet is great for filling in the gaps!

Here are our top four places to visit in NSW.

Byron Bay

As Australia’s Easternmost point, Byron Bay is one of the most famous surfing spots in the country and prime for celeb spotting. Alongside the beautiful beaches is also a charming town with a rural feel yet filled with great dining options, shopping and top-notch accommodation.

How to get there: Considering the swell is hard to match, you’d be crazy not to hire a GoGet van and chuck your surfboards in the back. The drive isn’t for the faint of heart at a touch under nine hours from Sydney, however there’re plenty of worthwhile stops in between including Coffs Harbour, home to the Big Banana.

The Ballina airport is the closest arrival point via plane and shuttles are available to the town centre from there.

Orange

Orange is a small town in Central Western NSW famed for its fresh produce, local vineyards, colourful Autumn foliage and snowy Winters. It’s a great way to experience some country charm and get your fix of cool climate wines and paddock-to-plate food.

How to get there: The town of Orange is around three and a half hours drive from the centre of Sydney. The trip takes you through the Blue Mountains where you can stop for a picture with the Three Sisters in Katoomba and tourist hot-spot Leura.

If you’re not up for driving the whole way, the Dubbo XPT runs daily between Dubbo and Sydney stopping in Orange, or NSW TrainLink runs a daily service between Lithgow and Sydney, where you can then jump on a coach service the rest of the way.

Once you’re in Orange, you can pick up a GoGet giving you free rein to explore the town and surrounding villages including Mt CanobolasMilthorpe and Lucknow.

Jervis Bay

Considered one of Australia’s hidden gems, Jervis Bay along the south coast, is a must-see on our top four places to visit in NSW. From world-class cuisine to national parks, water sports and relaxation options to boot, there’s plenty to see, do and explore no matter what type of holiday you’re after.

How to get there: Driving or public transport is the easiest way to get to Jervis Bay. From Sydney, you can catch the train to nearby Nowra, then take regional coach routes with Nowra Coaches.

If you decide to take to the roads, Jervis Bay is an easy three hours’ drive from Sydney so gather your friends and grab some snacks. Travelling by car also gives you the freedom to explore neighbouring towns such as Shoalhaven or Mollymook, which is a little under an hour drive further down the South Coast.

Palm Beach

Just a short drive up the coast from Sydney, Palm Beach is home to one of the country’s longest-running soaps, Home and Away. Visit the famous Barrenjoey Lighthouse, laze on the spectacular beaches and be sure to stop past the Summer Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

How to get there: Though it’s just a stone’s throw from the CBD, Palm Beach isn’t always the easiest to reach via public transport. If you catch a bus or the train to Wynyard station the L90 or B-Line bus will take you to the area in just under two hours. That time can shoot up closer to three in peak hours so be sure to watch what time you’re leaving.

If flexibility is more your game, the drive is around an hour from the CBD and beautifully scenic going through areas of the national park, along the coastline and through charming towns such as Newport, Avalon and Whale Beach. At just under 50km away, you can get there and back and only pay by the hour with GoGet. Or if you decided to do some exploring, you can simply pay a day rate that has 100km included!
