What is Zipcar?
Like GoGet, Zipcar is a car sharing service that helps members live without owning a car, or without owning a second car. Zipcar and GoGet let members hire cars and vans from as little as an hour, for an affordable hourly or daily rate.
Zipcar was founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1999, shortly before GoGet started in Sydney in 2003 as Newtown Car Share. Here’s some useless trivia – both GoGet and Zipcar were conceived in coffee shops!
What is GoGet?
Just like Zipcar, GoGet gives you access to a car when you need it, without the cost and hassle of owning one. While Zipcar Australia might not exist, GoGet’s network of 3,000+ vehicles makes it easy to find a car or van when and where you need it. There are GoGet cars located all over, parked on-street, in developments, car parks and near transport hubs.

Does GoGet work the same as Zipcar?
GoGet and Zipcar work in more or less the same way. Once you’re a member, you can book a car or van by the hour or by the day.
Like Zipcar, GoGet members pay a low monthly or annual fee, an hourly or daily booking fee, and a kilometre charge, while GoGet covers the rest. We pay for fuel (yep we pay for petrol!!), insurance, registration, as well as all cleaning and maintenance of the car. All you have to do is tap on with your GoGet smartcard at the start of your booking and drive away!
GoGet offers plans for one-off, occasional and heavy users, and there are low rates for students,businesses, and senior citizens. We also have a free van plan if you only need vanshare. It’s the easiest way to hire a van if you need to move something big or bulky, or get your large purchase home.

Signing up takes just a few minutes online. You'll need:
A valid driver's licence (Australian or international - see our overseas licence guide)
A credit or debit card for your membership
Once we’ve verified your identity and approved your application (most applications are approved instantly) you’re ready to go. You can grab a GoGet smartcard from a local pick-up point and you can book straight away. Otherwise we’ll send you a card in the post.
