Victoria is home to so many beautiful beaches and coastlines, but we’ve done the legwork for you and narrowed it down to our favourite 8 beaches. When it comes to finding beautiful beaches and stretches of scenic coastline, Victoria unquestionably delivers. Grab your swimmers and a towel, book your favourite GoGet and plan your next adventure today!

St. Kilda Beach

No Melbourne list would be complete without mentioning St Kilda. A small stretch of sand beach with a boardwalk next to it is frequented by skateboarders, rollerbladers, and dog-walkers. Although it can get quite crowded in the summer, this Melbourne-area beach is still a terrific place to cool off and is just a short hop, skip and a jump from the CBD. You may notice visitors swarming at around 8:00 p.m. in summer to see the penguin parade. Watch these cuties waddle ashore at sunset after a hard day’s fishing.

Brighton Beach

Brighton Beach is about 14 kilometres, or a 30-minute drive, from Melbourne’s CBD and is most recognisable for its Brighton Beach Boxes. Adorning the beach since the 1860s, they were initially built as places for women to get changed at the beach. Currently, there are more than 80 boxes, and are regarded as significant historical sites. The boxes are used to store beach supplies and provide a tiny sanctuary from the summer sun. Despite their tiny size, these boxes can command top dollar, with some selling at over $300k each!

Sorrento Back Beach

With magnificent beach breaks out the back, rockpools at low tide, and a long expanse of sand that is protected from the winds by the surrounding cliffs, Sorrento’s back beach has something for everyone! Learn to surf, build a sandcastle, trek the cliff-top trails, or explore the rock pools in search of marine life. And after spending the day enjoying this fantastic beach, you can also take advantage of the town of Sorrento’s fabulous shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Squeaky Beach

Apart from being absolutely stunning, Squeaky Beach has one unique selling point – squeaky sand! The high level of quartz in the white sands, means it squeaks as you walk through it. Around 3 hours drive from Melbourne, it’s located in the beautiful Wilsons Promontory.

Torquay Front Beach

It’s no secret that some of Victoria’s best beaches are found in Torquay. Due to its sheltered position, Torquay’s main beach is a favourite for summer splashing but can get pretty crowded on a sunny day. The Torquay Surf Academy rents kayaks, surfboards, SUPs, and boogie boards for those without their own gear.

Lorne Main Beach

Lorne has everything you need for a perfect weekend getaway from Melbourne – it even boasts a Movida. Even better, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the state. The only patrolled beach in town, the Main Beach is our fave!  It’s also a great place to learn to surf with its’ gentler, beginner-friendly waves.

Loch Ard Gorge Beach

There’s a reason Loch Ard Gorge is ranked as one of Victoria’s top beaches. It is one of the very best stops along the Great Ocean Road and just a short distance from the famous Twelve Apostles. It has a breathtaking beach that is accessible by stairs and overlooks two cliff sides. You won’t find a beach with a more beautiful setting!

Bells Beach

Surf fans (or fans of Point Break) will need no introduction to Bells Beach. Around 3 hours drive from Melbourne, this is best suited to a weekend getaway. Home of the iconic Rip Curl Surfing Comp, Bells Beach is a surfers’ haven. Though be warned, the large waves mean it’s really only suitable for experienced surfers. Luckily, the high surrounding cliffs and stunning viewpoints make it a worthwhile visit, even if you haven’t grown up on a board.
