Weekend Getaways from Sydney: Escape the City

Sydney is an incredible city, but sometimes you just need a break from the hustle and bustle. Luckily, there are plenty of weekend getaways just a short drive away. And what better time to GoGet out and about than a 4 day weekend! Read on for some egg-cellent destinations that are perfect for a relaxing Easter weekend away.

Mollymook

Located on the south coast of New South Wales, Mollymook is a small beachside town who’s relaxed and laid back atmosphere makes it perfect for a weekend getaway. Around 3 hour’s south of Sydney, Mollymook is famous for its stunning beaches, including Mollymook Beach and Narrawallee Beach. Both are great for swimming, surfing, and sunbathing. If you’re looking to treat yo’self look no further than a stay at Bannisters and make sure to eat at Rick Stein’s while you’re there. If you’re feeling energetic, the 5km Pigeon House Mountain Didthul walking track offers incredible panoramic views of the area. To recover from your hike, why not head to Cupitt’s Estate for lunch and wine tasting. We can personally recommend their Nebbiolo.

Kangaroo Valley

If you're looking for a peaceful retreat, look no further than Kangaroo Valley. Nestled in the NSW Southern Highlands and just 2 hours drive from Sydney it’s known for its beautiful natural scenery, which includes waterfalls, rainforests, and stunning views over the valley. You can go bushwalking (The west rim track is stunning) , canoeing, horse riding, or simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Kangaroo Valley is also known for its local produce, including cheese, wine, and olive oil. If bush-walking isn’t up your alley, you can visit the local farmers' markets, go on a winery tour (Lyebird Ridge Organic Winery is a GoGet top tip), or dine in one of the town's many restaurants and cafes.

The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are probably the most popular destination for Sydneysiders looking for a weekend escape. That doesn’t mean there’s not lots to still discover! This stunning mountain range is located about 90 minutes' drive from the city, and is full of beautiful scenery, hiking trails, and charming towns. Make the most of the last of the autumn sun and book a local campsite. You can visit the Three Sisters rock formation, one of Australia's most famous landmarks, go wildlife spotting, or immerse yourself in the local indigenous culture and heritage. It’s home to some of NSW’s very best hikes - check them out here. You can also visit the town of Katoomba, which has plenty of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. Even better you can also find 3 GoGet cars parked at Katoomba station. Skip the Easter traffic out of Sydney and take the train to Katoomba and grab a GoGet there.

Scotland Island NSW

If you're looking for a truly unique weekend getaway, consider Scotland Island. This small island is located in Pittwater, just north of Sydney, and it's only accessible by boat. Unfortunately we don’t do boatshare quite yet, but you can catch a ferry from Church Point. There are no cars on the island, so it's a peaceful retreat from the city. Scotland Island is a small community of around 700 residents, many of whom live in eco-friendly houses and embrace a sustainable lifestyle. The island is surrounded by pristine waters, making it a popular spot for boating, fishing, and swimming. You can also spend your time here on the bushwalking trails, or simply relax and enjoy the views. It’s a great day-trip from Sydney, but if you want to really get away and make a weekend of it, the Scotland Island Lodge is a fabulous overnight option. You’ll never want to leave.

Orange

Located in the Central West of New South Wales, Orange is a charming town that's perfect for a weekend getaway. One of the main attractions here is the food and wine scene, and you’ll get some of NSW’s very best produce. You can go wine tasting, visit the local farmers' markets, or dine in one of the town's many award-winning restaurants. There are also plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area, such as hiking, fishing, and mountain biking if you need to work off a feast or two. Keen to know more?
